Role Model Apprentice Day
On Tuesday, April 13 the Marlins partnered with the 5000 Role Models of Excellence Project to welcome five 5000 Role Models mentees for the Annual Take a Role Model Apprentice to Work Day. All of the high school senior mentees shared the day on the job with various Role Model Mentors while they performed their daily professional responsibilities, with the goal of exposing the Mentees to potential career opportunities. The Mentees enjoyed a behind the scenes tour of Marlins Park before sitting down with the Marlins in house Role Model Mentors, Derek Jackson, VP and General Council, and Mike Hill, Marlins General Manager. After a thrilling morning learning about the front office aspects of a professional baseball team, they all enjoyed lunch where they exchanged riveting stories about their lives at Harvard and shared much needed advice with the Mentees.

Opening Day – The Marlins Ayudan Way!
Happy Opening Week! Are you as excited as I am to be back to baseball? Or how about this one…Are you as excited as 441 elementary school students who got out of class to watch the Marlins play? That’s what happened on Monday as Marlins Ayudan celebrated Opening Day with Ben Sheppard Elementary School.

Marlins Dir. of Baseball Operations, Mike Wickham, decorating the “Marlins Corner” with students from Ben Sheppard Elementary
At Ben Sheppard Elementary, Opening Day had two meanings. Not only did the Miami Marlins open their season against the Nationals, but Ben Sheppard officially opened the “Marlins Corner” in their library! Thanks to a contribution from the Marlins Foundation, Ayudan teams “Sun Lifers” and “Restore Miami” were able to remake a corner of the library and fill it with brand new, baseball-related, hardcover books!
At the beginning of March students were sent home a letter stating if they earned perfect attendance for the month that they would be rewarded by the Miami Marlins. That did the trick – 441 students achieved perfect attendance in the month of March!
So on Monday afternoon, front office employees spent their time with 1st – 5th graders showing off the Marlins Corner, coloring Marlins M’s, handing out t-shirts and rulers, eating pizza, and watching the Marlins play . If you ask me, there’s no better way to kick off the 2013 baseball season!
How did you celebrate Opening Day?
Citrus Grove Elementary Mural Project
Marlins Ayudan School Partner, Citrus Grove Elementary, was the recent benefactor of an exciting makeover! Marlins Ayudan team “Pulse,” led by Senior Vice President of Marketing & Event Booking, Sean Flynn, is partnering with Citrus Grove Elementary for the 2013 year. As a part of their partnership with Citrus Grove Elementary, ”Pulse” funded the entirety of the mural project and spent a morning spray painting this very elaborate new mural outside the school’s cafeteria. This was a very exciting day for both students and staff a like as this marked the first of many more projects to come!
Support Our Troops!
Today we are excited to share this picture we received from Afghanistan of SGT Mickey Planker of the 806 MP company representing the Marlins overseas! The Marlins are happy to support our troops!
