Marlins Wives Tackle Box Auction

Amidst the excitement of Nathan Evoldi’s Marlins debut and a thrilling 4-2 Marlins victory, fans in attendance did their best Brad Pitt impression by posing the question, “What’s in the box!” That’s right, on July 28th the annual Wives Tackle Box Auction took place. The Marlins Wives collected some of their husbands’ favorite items, gift cards to their restaurants and leisure activities of choice, along with unique autographed items and displayed them in tackle boxes (cuz we’re “the fish”… get it) for fans to bid on.

The event has come and gone and after raising over $6,000 to benefit Shake-A-Leg Miami, here is a look back at some of the unique items up for auction.
Steve Cishek offered up a private pitching lesson at Marlins Park, to go along with an autographed golf photo of himself and a limited edition Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle from his personal collection. Veteran infielder Carlos Lee included an authentic signed Panama jersey from the World Baseball Classic to go along with autographed programs and brochures from his very own cattle ranch for those of you interested in beef for your next bbq. Have you been watching “The Franchise”? If so, you would have recognized LoMo’s Stewie shirt that he wore on the show and was included in his box to go along with autographed items like his toothbrush holder and gift certificates to Mr. Yum’s sushi restaurant, home of the LoMo roll. These are just a handful of cool items that were auctioned off at the event and maybe next year you can be the winner of a suite night compliments of Ozzie Guillen, or hitting lessons with “The Most Interesting Man in Baseball,” Greg Dobbs.

2012 Tackle Boxes included: Jose Reyes, Mark Buehlre, Carlos Lee, Ozzie Guillen, Brett Hayes, John Buck, Justin Ruggiano, Logan Morisson, Emilio Bonifacio, Steve Cishek, Donnie Murphy, Greg Dobbs

Biggest game in Miami starts in a few hours…

No we’re not talking about Heat vs Celtics Game 7! That game pales in comparison to the epic rematch that will be taking place at 5:30pm inside Marlins Park.  We’re talking about the Marlins vs Rays Wives Citrus Cup Softball Classic, where the Marlins will try and make it two wins in a row. It was a busy offseason for the team, as trades and pregnancies have opened the door for new faces and newlyweds to make their mark on the series today. So come out and support the ladies as they raise money for their respective charities, Shake-A-Leg Miami and Autism Speaks Tampa Bay.

It should be a great ballgame and don’t be surprised to see returning Marlins starter Brooke Buck go yard, or possibly another sensational web gem from Katelyn Davis of the Rays at Short Stop. For more information on how you can join the wives in supporting Shake-A-Leg Miami visit

Great day at Shake-A-Leg Miami!

Earlier today I was a t Shake-A-Leg Miami with folks from Broward Navy Days.  Broward Navy Days organizes the Annual Fleet Week at Port Everglades and makes sure all of the men and women who serve our country enjoy a good time while they are in port.  We are looking forward to working together during Fleet Week 2013, but today was about introducing them to our charity partner, Shake-A-Leg Miami.

We had a wonderful time learning about what we all can bring to the table, and I am excited to get working on it!  Stayed tuned for a Veterans Day event!

The afternoon was capped off meeting with veterans from the VA Medical Center…they had just returned from a day of fishing on Biscayne Bay.  These Veterans fishing outings generally take place twice a month, and sometimes in lieu of fishing, they opt for kayaking or sailing.  Regardless of the activity, the veterans all enjoyed their day at Shake, and many will be coing out to a Marlins game over the weekend!

Shake-A-Leg Miami is an official Charity Partner of the Miami Marlins.

Marlins Foundation donates $50,000 to Shake-A-Leg Miami

On Friday, April 13th we presented one of our favorite partners with a check for $50,000. The work that “Shake” does in our community is so important because it provides a water sport community for one and all. At the Marlins Foundation, we talk a lot about improving the lives of our youth through education, baseball and the arts. We strive to provide unique experiences for kids in our schools, parks and on the WATER!

Buck-a-Roos and Lil’ Dobbers

We just wrapped up an awesome homestand!  Not only did the guys go 5-1 on the field, but they also made their impact known off of it.

On Friday night, John Buck hosted his first Buck-a-Roos night of the season.  A group of kids from Shake-A-Leg Miami living with autism along with their families were treated to a pre-game meet and greet with Buck, a new-look Buck-a-Roos t shirt, tickets behind homeplate and refreshments.  Shake-A-Leg Miami also received a check from the Foundation for $50,000.  A portion of that gift will go to fund Marlins Mornings on the Bay, which will also feature a Buck-a-Roo component.  Shake-A-Leg Miami, one of Miami’s premier sailing and water sports centers, provides the opportunity for everyone to enjoy the waters of Biscayne Bay, regardless of physical, emotional or financial abilities.

Prior to the game against the Cubs on Wednesday night, Greg Dobbs debuted his Lil’ Dobbers program.  Every Wednesday night game, Dobbs will host 10 Lil’ Dobbers from the Boys and Girls Club.  Each Lil’ Dobber will have the opportunity to watch batting practice from the field, meet Dobbs, receive a tshirt, a ticket above the Marlins dugout and refreshments for the game.

Both Shake-A-Leg Miami and the Boys and Girls Club are official charity partners of the MIami Marlins.
